The Colon Free Zone

The Colon Free Zone actually, has 450 hectares, divided into two (2) commercial areas: the first one is the commercial area of showrooms in Colon (old city limits) and the other, commercial warehouse and storage area in France Field.
There are approximately 2,500 companies established in the segregated area, generating 27,347 permanent employments. Its annual commercial transactions or commercial movements generates $16,160 thousands millions US dollars in imports and re-exports.
Within this area there are prestigious companies established, such as: Motta International, Sony Corportion, LG Electronics Panama, Samsung Electronics Panama, Bristol Laboratories, May’s Zona Libre, Pioneer Int’l Latin America, Waked International and many others.
The Free Zone is visited every year by approximately 148,980 tourists from all over the world, among which are prominent, the natives of Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Haiti, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Honduras, United Sates, Dominican Republic, among others.
The most important products in the trade zone are: clothing in general, electronics, shoes in general, pharmaceuticals, perfumes, liquors and cigarettes, textiles, watches in general, among others. According to statistics, the country that stands out as the best client is Venezuela, because of its high purchasing index in the Free Zone, Colombia follows. The man importer is China-Continental and Hong Kong.
The Colon Free Zone generates wide benefits for the economy of the country, because, the intense commercial activity that is developed in this commercial emporium, has an enormous impact on the national economy, which is reflected in the contribution to the National gross-domestic-product (GDP) of 1,293.2 millions, which represents almost 8% reason for which, the Free Zone is considered as one of the biggest pillar of the Panamanian economy.

Amongst the main services and infrastructure the Colon Zone offers to its ussers it can be metioned:

•    Stock and cargo redistribution center.
•    More than 2000 companies destined to exhibit, import, re-export, store, repack, assemble, transform design and create, among other activities, merchandise, products or raw material and the rest of business effects.

•    Security inside and in the surrounding area.
•    Multinational cargo companies provide service in less than 24 hours.
•    Closeness of port, railroad, terrestrial terminal and airport.
•    Luxury hotels 5 minutes from the commercial area.
•    Cruise ships terminals close to the area.
